We're black and white and green all over: as a paper, Metro encourages readers to recycle their copies and re-use them if possible as well as getting involved in lots of green projects.

Metro Re-Create was launched in 2007 and asked art and design students to create something brilliant from used copies of Metro.

We had 119 entries to the competition and were incredibly impressed by the quality of the submissions. In order to be able to pick a winner we chose a panel of expert judges to make the big decision. The panel consisted of:

Ryan Franks - Furniture Designer specialising in reclaimed materials www.ryanfrank.net
Dr Paul Micklethwaite - Senior Research Fellow, Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Kingston University
Rob Ryan - Paper Artist www.misterrob.co.uk
Fiona McDonald - Editor of the Metro green pages.

Due to the high standard of the entries we picked three 1st prize winners who each received £1000 cash and £500 to spend at London Graphic Centre.
